I've just finished a Daphne du Maurier novel, "Mary Anne". I haven't anything else on the go at the moment. A trip to the library is due shortly.

Is it any good?

I am reading Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens at present. It is a good book, just what you would expect from Dickens, but I find I am in a country mood, so I am thinking of reading an Elizabeth Gaskell book, she is excellent.

Its very good Mel. I like Daphne du Maurier but I was only familiar with her short stories like "The Birds" and "Not After Midnight".

I popped into the library today and got "Rebecca", another Daphne du Maurier novel, and "A Room With a View", by E. M. Forester.

I have just started reading 'Country Bunch: An Anthology Of The Countryside' by Miss Read. I have read this book before and I love it, it is full of delightful passages from Dorothy Wordsworth, Parson Woodforde, Flora Thompson and many more. It is a good source for other books on the country side.
I love Miss Read, and have all her books. She writes about the countryside in a gentle, loving way. Her books make you happy and this one is no exception.

I've given up on Forester. I had no idea he was such a slog to get through. I took that book back to the library today and found something which sounds quite intriuging;

"Having the Builders In" by Reay Tannahill. "A delicious novel of medieval rivalry, chivalry and masonry". Sounds funny! Sort of like Grand Designs but 14th century.  Very Happy

I'm reading Home Making by J.R. Miller.  It was written in 1880 by a Minister.

It's not a book on home keeping, but on the roles of the husband, wife, children in the home.  Excellent!  I'm loving it.
