It is going to be one mad rush today. I have already done the housework, not much needed doing as I did it all yesterday, I have sorted the pets things out ready for when we go out, I shall be doing my hair and make up soon and John shall be having a bath. We have to go into town to attend a meeting, but before we go there, we have to go to Johns parents to drop our spare keys off incase we are not back in time for them. So we shall go there first, then the town, I am going to the library again, attend the meeting, rush home for Johns parents arriving (that is if they are not already here by then) and cook dinner for the 4 of us, so it is rush, rush, rush today!
John and I watched 'The Time Machine' on dvd last night and it was quite good.
The big bang machine is getting switched on today and I am freaking about it, hopefully everything will be alright.
Anyway, have a good day ladies.
Take Care All.

I am now all ready to go out, John is in the bath, so once he is ready we shall leave.
I am feeling poorly again today, and I'm getting a sty on my left eye, I can feel my eye swelling, horrible!
The big bang machine has been switched on, and everything has gone well so far, thank God! |

Yes, dang it! The Swiss experiment hasn't changed a thing. It would appear I DO have to pay the sodding council tax this month. Honestly, they should stick to watches and Toberlone!
Anywho, on with the show. Its been a superb early Fall day here in Sedgley (gasp! shock!). Dry, sunny and breezy. I've been into town and visited three different butchers to get the meats I wanted. Picked up a summer weight duvet on sale at Roseby's, my favourite bedding shop. So I'll add that to the one already on the bed when the time comes, and we should be plenty warm.
I've updated the blogs, got some ham and pineapple ready for the oven and tonight's supper. Time for a nice mug of tea and another one of those sugar cookies.
Mel, pink eye or conjunctivitis as its properly known, is caused by a virus. Its very contagious. Have you got rid of eye make up and make up brushes since the last bout? Bedding and towels, anything that may have come in contact with the eye, needs to be hot washed. I wonder if you've picked it up while out and about? Keep your hands away from your face when your out and wash them well when you get back in. _________________ A Cosy Life

Dropped of the little one at preschool--he thought we going to his big brother's school and was excited to go...until we turned onto his school's driveway...then it was "No No NO!"...Ay yi yi, he was crying and clinging to me--breaks my heart! I'm giving it a month, 3x a week and if it doesn't get any better for him I'll keep him at home until he's older.
I'll be doing housework today, maybe even sanding down the railings on the balcony outside. The paint's all rusted and cracking off so I'll have to sand, then prime then paint. Hopefully it won't be too hard to get it off.
So far so good no phone call yet from the school hehe...
Melanie I hope your eye gets better. Sometimes I get a painful sty, usually when my defenses are down and I'm not well rested. Get a hand towel and run it under hot water then hold it over the sty. The swelling should go down. Hopefully your eye is not red and weepy. Like Ali said, pink eye is extremely contagious. Funny thing though, besides the proper medication, breast milk gets rid of it--my sons both had it when they were infants--worked like a charm!
Ali I'm sorry you got stuck with having to pay council tax---is that like state tax/income tax here?
Have a good day all! We'll see if my son does not come out mentally traumatized by preschool! _________________ "I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it will be with a knife." Louise Brooks |

Council tax is something every household in England has to pay. I suppose it could be thought of as a tax each municipality or council collects in order to provide the various services you expect like police, fire, garbage etc..
Its expensive and frankly, I don't think its at all fair. It doesn't take into account things like income or ability to pay. Its based on the value of your dwelling and its applied to both homeowners and people who rent.
Its essentially the old poll tax that caused such an uproar under the Thatcher administration (though the concept of poll tax goes back a long way and was present in the States at one time). _________________ A Cosy Life

Ok it sounds like property tax. Here, they calculate 1% of the estimated cost of your property, which can be really expensive! I know you can get your property's value reassessed--because of the falling home values now, the tax might be not so back breaking. Do they have something like there?
It sucks if you rent and have to pay for that!! How do they take do that if you live in an apartment?? _________________ "I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it will be with a knife." Louise Brooks |

There's no property tax in England. When you rent a place the value of the dwelling is usually already listed with the council via the Land Registry. If its a new building, then the council sends someone round to value the place. Then, I suppose like property tax, you pay a percentage of that value. But regardless if your a renter or own the property and live in it, you pay.
The tax is divided into bands or grades from A to D. A being the lowest, D the highest. The more the property is worth, the higher the band or grade and the more tax you pay.
Its probably the primary source of income for the municipalities or councils as they're called. The tax system and how much subsidising each gets from central government is very different from how we do it in Canada or the U.S. _________________ A Cosy Life

I'm going to try this for the third time
I have made two attempts at posting and they have disappeared and I don't know how...so annoying.
Wow, everyone is having a leftover monday it sounds like....which isn't as bad as the actual monday just slightly less. LOL
I went to my writing class last night. it was good, I have an assignment which I started working on this a.m. and when I'm finished I might put it on here for you to read...
I finished some of my errands and have one more to go. I am not sure if I want to do it today or tomorrow. Traffic is a bother and it looks like we're going to get rain. The outerbands from Ike. At least it wasn't Ike himself.
I'm making that pot of soup I didn't make yesterday...good way to clean out the frig.
Have a nice day all... _________________ Barbara |

Ali, I love the winter time when you have to add layers and layers of blankets on your bed to stay warm, so snuggly! I will check out your blogs tomorrow as I'm on Johns computer at the min, and your blogs are on my laptop.
Joan, I can imagine it was very hard for you dropping your son off at pre-school, but you just watch, he will make loads of friends and in time will be looking forward to going to pre-school.
Barb, I'm so pleased you enjoyed your writing class and I would love to read your assignment, what is it on?
What kind of soup are you making?
Thanks for the advice girls about my eye, I am still using the same make up brushes ect.., though I don't wear eye make up very often, once a week if that, and I have not worn any eye make up since last Friday, and my sty started coming on last night. I have heard that rubbing a gold wedding ring on a sty is supposed to get rid of it, I suppose it is something in the gold, so I have tried it anyway, we shall see.
What a day this has been, we have done everything that we planned but it has just been one mad rush! I got more Alice Taylor books out of the library, John and I got some shopping while we were in town, then we attended the meeting which took longer than expected. We only just got in when Johns parents arrived, so we made dinner, chicken curry, everyone has now eaten, we have cleared away and cleaned the kitchen, and now I am able to relax on here, though I will have to b quick, as John and his parents are in the living room watching Eggheads, and they will think I am rude if I stay in here for long.
I am going to flick through next weeks tv guide, see what good things are coming on, sit and chat with Johns parents, speak to my parents on the phone, then later, John and I shall get settled and watch a dvd together. |
